Embracing Failure

Yesterday, I set a World Record 🏅

In a grand total of 2 hours and 20 minutes, I won a client. And then LOST that client.

In less time than it takes to watch The Lord of the Rings, I had been hired AND fired. Frodo had barely left the Shire, and I’d already been cast into Mount Doom.

Why tell you this? Losing a client is a pretty odd thing to share, after all.

Well… I’ve had enough of people saying things like ‘own your mistakes’ and ‘embrace failure’, and then the moment something bad happens, they…

👀 glance around to make sure no-one’s watching…

🧹 quietly pick up a brush…

💨 sweep it under the rug…

🎵 and whistle while they walk away, trying as hard as possible to forget it ever happened.

I’m over it. If you’ve made a mistake, it’s happened. It’s done. You can’t take it back.

But you can still get a good thing out of it.

You can share it so other people can see that they’re not the only one out there failing and making mistakes.

So, to anyone who works with clients, who tries to achieve the best results for them, and who still comes up short from time-to-time, this one’s for you!
