A Student and a Teacher

A student and a teacher

You may have just started on your journey, or you may have been at it a while.

Whatever stage you’re at, I can tell you this: there are people ahead of you, and there are people behind you.

That means that there are people who have figured out more than you have and have made more progress. Maybe they’ve already achieved what you want to. Look to them for knowledge and wisdom. Comb the internet and their books for every pearl of wisdom you can. They are your teachers. Consider yourself their student.

But there are also people behind you who will be looking to you for guidance.

That may seem insane to you.

After all, how could someone think you have it figured out? You, that’s currently struggling to make ends meet? The same person whose growth has stalled and has just lost a client? How can you possibly have anything to teach?

If your growth has stalled, it means that you gained some initial traction. You can teach someone that.

If you’ve just lost a client, it means that you managed to win a client. You can teach someone that.

If you’ve written just one single word on your website, you know how to choose a website provider, set up hosting and an email, choose a business name, and take that first step.

Even if it doesn’t feel like it, it means that you’re ahead of 99% of people, just because you’ve taken that first step.

So when people look to you for guidance, don’t shy away from it.

Don’t make it seem like you’ve achieved more than you have, but don’t downplay your achievements either.

So many of us know how to be a student, but are reluctant to take up the mantle of teacher.

Why?

Let’s learn and pass that knowledge on. Whether you believe it or not right now, you do have something of value to give.

Be a student and a teacher.
